Police in Connecticut have arrested a man accused of killing a toddler in Toronto 18 years ago.
Germaine Sean Lindo, 38, is accused of manslaughter in the 1993 death of 20-month-old Candace DaSilva.
Police arrested Lindo on Dec. 14.
Toronto police say Lindo was stopped in Norwich, and allegedly gave officers a false name. Police then gave his fingerprints to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which revealed the outstanding Canadian warrant.
He is currently being held in Connecticut.
Toronto police say the Department of Justice will likely seek Lindo’s extradition to Canada.
DaSilva was pronounced dead in hospital on Nov. 26, 1993. An autopsy determined that she died from multiple organ failure and sepsis related to scalding burns.
DaSilva’s mother Rose Mary DaSilva was arrested and charged with manslaughter. A warrant was issued for Lindo in October 1994.
